Toba Sea-Folk Musum

Toba Sea-Folk Musum has more than 30,000 actual items. The main theme is "Man's relation to the ocean and history".It is based on seven sub themes,- tradition, myth and religion, pollution, fishing, contest of wits between fisherman and fish, old wooden boat and women diver "Ama".

Sea-Folk Musum

About 25minutes by bus "Mie Kotsu" from Toba St.
Get off at "Uminohakubutukan-mae"

Sea-Folk Musum

The Museum facility received the Japan Building Society Prize

"Contest of wits between fisherman and fish" is funny,
and "Amulet of Ama" is amazing. I took interested in that.

The exhibition in the first building is
Tradition, Religion and Festivals and Pollution of the Sea.

Ceremonial salt

Special ceremonial salt "Mishio"
Noshi-awabi

abalone called "Noshi-awabi"

At Geku, a ceremony is held every day to offer food to Amaterasu-Omikami. According to some book, Amaterasu's favorite food is "Noshi-awabi". I wonder about that.

"Ama" : Women Diver

Women Diver

Ama : dressed in traditional white clothes

Ise-Shima Peninsula, which is surrounded by the sea, abounds in fish and shells. Women divers or Ama search for abalone deep on the ocean floor. (Japanese abalone almost inhabit on the rocks of the seabed, not on the kelp bed). It's very dangerous works, so Ama wears a special amulet called Seman Doman that protects them from peril.

Seman Doman

Nowadays many of them wear on wetsuits but they never forget amulets of "Seman Doman".

amulet

I was surprised by the mark on the left side, it looks like the Star of David, but it's not. The star-mark drawing with a single stroke of the brush means that "protect from danger (evil)".
