One of the oldest town in the world of Byblos (Jbail), 36km north from Beirut, goes back at least 9000 years. In the 3rd millennium BC, it was the commercial and religious capital of the area and growing wealthy from the timber trade, cedar wood, with Egypt.
Roman Theatre Byblos also gave its name to the "Bible" and the first linear alphabet was invented. |
